Our Story
Discover Recovery East Africa equips people to be free from the bondage of addictions and destructive patterns of living. We train participants to start new groups and teach others what they have learned. This gives people a sense of purpose and multiples the impact of changed lives.
Trainers and learners can participate in group or individual sessions. Classes are offered on site or in a residential area of Nairobi. As people “graduate” from the class they are encouraged to share what they have learned and to start a new group.

The 12 Step Model is a Game Changer!
1 - Honesty
Recovery can begin with one simple admission of being powerless over alcohol, for alcoholics and their friends and family.
2 - Faith
Faith is the key accessing the life changing power of the Gospel. It is the starting point to seeing that there is strength beyond one’s own abilities.
3- Surrender
A lifetime of self-will run riot can come to a screeching halt and change forever, by making a simple decision to turn it all over to a higher power.
4 - Soul Searching
This is a process, not an event. An honest look inside is critical real change – not someone else telling you what is wrong.
5 - Integrity
Facing reality is the greatest opportunity for growth. Admitting to God, to ourselves and to another human being about the exact nature of our wrongs.
6 - Acceptance
Change begins with accepting character defects exactly as they are, willingly let them go, and give God the opportunity to remove the scars.
7 - Humility
The spiritual focus of the program is in humility, asking a higher power to do something that cannot be done by self-will or mere determination.
8 - Willingness
Becoming willing to change is the beginning of change – it is often the most difficult step.
9 - Forgiveness
Making amends may seem like a bitter pill to swallow, but for those serious about recovery it can be great medicine for the spirit and soul.
10 - Maintenance
Change is not an event. Persistence is needed to maintain spiritual progress in recovery.
11 -Making a Contact
A plan and a promise turn wishes and wants into reality.
12 - Service
Living for something or someone greater than yourself provides the meaning and purpose to continue on the lifetime of recovery.

Who is Shari?
Hi ! I’m Shari Cohen the founder and director of Discover Recovery. I am currently a full time “missionary” in Nairobi Kenya with my husband Bill. I experienced a miraculous transformation in my life when I came to faith in Jesus Christ. Everything changed! I live to tell others of His love and life changing power. Some people tell me I am fearless and bold. I’m not sure about that, but I know God is faithful and His unchanging power keep me going. I want everyone to know the freedom I now have in Christ. Will you help me help others?

Please join our journey!
We rely on the faithfulness of God working through generous people like you. Your tax-deductible contribution will allow us to sustain and expand our work in slums, prisons, schools, and with church partnerships to make this ministry available to those in urgent need across East Africa.
